Copnor: St Albans Church, in Copnor Road is assisting with food parcels. To email them click here.

Southsea: St Margaret's Community Shop, in Highland Road, is now running as a food donation and distribution centre, supporting those most vulnerable during the pandemic. They are open every Monday/Wednesday/Friday 10-11 where you can donate food, pick up supplies or if you are simply in need of socially distanced support or a chat!

The Trussel Trust operates four Foodbanks located across the City (Central Southsea, North End, Paulsgrove and Portsea). For directions and opening times click here

They provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis. They are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

If you need help from a foodbank there are a few simple steps to follow:

  • In order to provide the most appropriate help for the circumstances of your situation they work with local agencies, so you will need to call or email the foodbank so they can talk through your situation and put you in touch with a relevant local agency. Call 02392987976 or email
  • Alternatively you can speak to Citizens Advice Portsmouth to be refered. Call 023 9400 6600 (7am - 7pm Monday - Thursday, 7am - 7pm Friday).
  • Take your foodbank voucher to your nearest foodbank centre where they will discuss any dietary needs you may have and exchange your foodbank voucher for a parcel of three days of emergency food.

Food Delivery Directory

Organising grocery shopping to be delivered to your home can be a huge help during this difficult time. It's a great way to ensure you have plenty of essentials if you're self-isolating or doing your bit to self-distance from others.

We've compiled and regularly update a comprehensive list of local Portsmouth businesses that are offering food deliveries at this time - from big supermarkets to butchers and bakers.

You can search the directory by food type and each listing includes information about their delivery services, their location on a map, telephone numbers and links to their facebook page or website.

Volunteer Shopping Cards

If you’re amongst the many people who have been advised to self-isolate, one of the biggest challenges you’ve probably faced is getting a regular supply of groceries.

Volunteer Shopping Cards enable friends and helpers to shop on your behalf with many supermarkets making even easier buy selling them online and sending it to your volunteer by email or post. No cash or bank details are exchanged, meaning it’s safe and secure for both you and the volunteer.

How it works:

  • The Volunteer Shopping Card can be bought easily online
  • It can then be emailed to the volunteer or printed out and left in a safe place for the volunteer to pick up
  • The volunteer then shops using the card, makes the payment using the barcode in-store, and leaves the shopping in a safe place

So far five supermarkets have launched e-gift cards, and we’ll keep you posted if more follow suit. Follow the links below to set yours up.

Giftcards that can be posted to any address in the UK are available at the following supermarkets:
