Portsmouth DSA is an award-winning charity committed to improving the lives of children and families. We know our young people can succeed when given the opportunity and with the right support, and we believe they deserve the same opportunities and right to experience success as their peers. Portsmouth DSA provides a range of some of the best specialist services in the UK supporting development and education and offers training to assist families and professionals in providing effective support from the point of diagnosis, helping to teach children the skills they need to reach their developmental milestones, succeed at school, and become valued and productive members of their communities. When children with Down syndrome are given opportunities to participate and be fully included, the whole community benefits.

Portsmouth Film Society aims to use English and international film as a medium to support the development of local culture, community and education and encourage both film and diversity appreciation.

Portsmouth Foodbank provides parcels of non-perishable food, guided by The Trussell Trust, who has worked with nutritionists to ensure food parcels contains sufficient nutrition for at least three days worth of healthy, balanced meals for individuals and families.

PLEASE NOTE: Many Food Banks require referrals. If you need to be referred to a foodbank, talk to your support worker (such as a health visitor or social worker)

We create and foster unity amongst Gambians and non Gambians in Portsmouth and its surroundings.

Services include interpreting from English to Gambian local dialect, and Providing emotional support.

Activities around the Portsmouth Areas

The Portsmouth Hispanic Society offers presentations and discussions on a wide and eclectic range of Hispanic topics. These meetings are normally held at Fratton Community Centre - see website for more details.

The Society also offers inexpensive Spanish language lessons at a variety of levels. Some lessons are currently delivered over Zoom, and others face to face at a venue in Portsmouth. See the Society's website for details and charges.

We began active broadcasting from St. Mary's in 1971 covering St. James & Haslar as well as QA, with contacts at Fratton Park and Portsmouth Guildhall. Time (and money) however wittled it down to our two major studios and after a period of relative stability running two productive and active studios we arrived one day to find St. Mary's two feet deep in rainwater! Water and electricity do not mix - they can be quite shocking (sorry couldn't resist) so despite renovation scrubbing and cleaning it became obvious that our underground haven was becoming untenable, so the decision was taken to close it and to concentrate on QA.

The Portsmouth Interaction Service provides sports and fitness services for people living within the City who are experiencing a mental health condition.
