School Reading Volunteers *Urgent Required

Could you spare a small amount of time each week to help Portsmouth school children with their reading?

We are looking to support schools in Portsmouth by having a team of reading volunteers, who will go into schools regularly and help the children with their reading skills.

The volunteers will help by listening to them read, and talking to them about their books and reading choices

A school reading volunteer is someone who volunteers at a local school to listen to pupils read one-to-one on a regular basis. Reading like this can help pupils to have more fun reading, develop their confidence and skill in reading, encourage them to read more and help them to overcome any challenges they face.

Befriender - Care Home

We are looking for volunteers to support and assist the care teams who look after our residents (who have dementia or severe memory loss), some of whom receive no visitors and where loneliness is a  problem. Reminiscing, reading and chatting can help to improve the quality of life for our residents. This is a rewarding role that can be fun as well as challenging, and you can make a difference in the lives of vulnerable people.

Could you spare a few hours on a regular basis anytime between 10 am and 7 pm?

Good experience for someone thinking of going into care work, hospital work, or anyone with a caring nature and some free time! Could you make a difference and make a positive contribution to your community?

One to One short walks befriender

Do you have a few hours to spare every week?

Do you want to support Older People in your local community?

If so, this is the role for you!

Our Volunteer Befrienders help improve the quality of life for older people who are socially isolated and may feel lonely. Our Befrienders are introduced to a member with the purpose of accompanying them on a short walk whilst spending time each week to bring companionship, and a chance to chat. The walks maybe just to post a letter, or walk in the park. The aim is to help increase the confidence of the older person to enable them to venture outside after being at home during this pandemic.

Knit to help Seafarers

We improve the lives of seafarers and fishers through our network of local chaplains and seafarer centres, expert information, advocacy, and spiritual support.

Seafarers are often ill-equipped to deal with the cold conditions they find onboard. Our volunteer knitters provide invaluable support for seafarers by helping them to keep warm.
