Learning & Activities for adults

As we continue to navigate the country's third lockdown, it can feel a bit like Groundhog Day. But staying in can be just as fun and productive as going out, with OUR tips to keep boredom at bay. From learning new skills to virtual tours, we've got you covered…

Learn something new

The city council's Community Learning Service aims to offer high quality courses at the best value. Their courses are funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) and the majority are FREE. For courses with a fee, there is a reduction for those on income-related benefits.

If you want to know more, or can’t find what you’re looking for, please drop-in to The Learning Place on Derby Road, or phone us on 023 9262 1860 or email us at thelearningplace@portsmouthcc.gov.uk

The Open University

A world leader in open and distance learning, all OpenLearn courses are free to study. They offer nearly 1000 free courses across 8 different subject areas. Our courses are available to start right away.  https://www.open.edu/openlearn/free-courses

Libraries still here for you

Portsmouth libraries are dedicating their time and resources to bring as much of their service to you, so you can be part of the community again.

Museums

You can get involved with the Portsmouth Museums community, keep in touch with them, and meet others along the way to help you keep busy.

Visit our keeping busy with Portsmouth Museums page to find out the projects and activities they're running during lockdown.

Virtual Tours

With England back under a national lockdown, Portsmouth's attractions, as well as our pubs, bars and restaurants must close.

Whilst you're not able to experience Portsmouth at its best currently, there's still an opportunity to experience a trip to the coast - from home! #VirtualPortsmouth gives you the chance to experience a trip to the Great Waterfront City remotely. The below activities give you behind-the-scenes tours, fascinating films, fitness classes and fun things to do for all ages.

So pop the kettle on, settle in, and head off to the coast on a journey of exploration - from the comfort of your own sofa. Click through the icons below to discover all the things to see and do at each attraction.
