We're hiring! Helpdesk Coordinator (Neighbourhood Health)

Are you someone who listens well, cares about people, and wants to help residents find the right support at the right time?

HIVE Portsmouth is looking for a Helpdesk Coordinator (Neighbourhood Health) to help develop and deliver our community helpdesk and wellbeing collective offer across QA Hospital, Central Library and community venues. This is a practical, people-focused role for someone who enjoys connecting with residents, patients, carers, partners and local VCSE organisations, and who can bring warmth, confidence and good judgement to every conversation.

Full time, 37 hours per week | 1-year fixed term contract initially | Salary: £26,097

About the role

You’ll be part of a friendly and committed team working alongside NHS, Local Authority, VCSE and community partners to make it easier for people to access support. You’ll be a welcoming first point of contact through the helpdesk and manage referrals into and out of the Wellbeing Collective project helping people to connect with community-based support, understand their options, navigate local services and feel more connected to their community.

The role will include time at QA Hospital and our established community-based helpdesks, with flexibility to work across different locations depending on need. You’ll support early intervention, help improve referral routes, and contribute to a service that is shaped with local people and rooted in what matters to them.

What you’ll be doing

  • Welcoming and supporting members of the public, patients, carers and professionals through face-to-face, phone, email and agreed referral routes.
  • Helping people find the right community, voluntary and statutory support for their situation.
  • Managing referrals to the wellbeing collective project and assigning to the most appropriate VCSE partner organisation.
  • Working closely with hospital teams, including ED, Transfer of Care and rehabilitation services, to support people at key transition points.
  • Building relationships with residents, community groups and partner organisations using Asset Based Community Development principles.
  • Supporting community engagement activity and helping local people shape the ongoing helpdesk offer.
  • Recording contacts accurately, following safeguarding processes, and contributing to learning, insight and service development.
  • Supporting and encouraging community volunteers involved in the helpdesk offer.

About you

We’re looking for someone who is approachable, organised and genuinely interested in people. You’ll be a confident communicator who can listen carefully, respond with empathy and help people feel heard, even when situations are busy or challenging.

You don’t need to know every answer straight away, but you will need the curiosity, initiative and confidence to find things out, work with others and keep people informed. Experience in customer service, community support, advice, health, social care or voluntary sector settings would be helpful, but most important is your commitment to excellent service, teamwork and treating every person with dignity and respect.

Why join HIVE Portsmouth?

At HIVE Portsmouth, we bring people together to build a happier, healthier and more connected city. This role is a chance to make a real difference every day by helping people access support, strengthening community connections and working with partners who care deeply about Portsmouth and its residents.

You’ll join a supportive team that values kindness, collaboration, learning and practical action. If you’re motivated by people, community and making services easier to access, we’d love to hear from you.
