Caritas Portsmouth is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portsmouth
What we do
Caritas works as the diocese outreach organisation… we are not the only part of the Diocese undertaking outreach work, as many parishes and teams also are involved in outreach…

However, Caritas is solely concerned with outreach, with bringing the Bishop’s vision of “bringing people to Jesus through his church” to life by being outward looking servants.

All that Caritas does is based on Catholic Social Teaching.

What is Caritas?

Caritas Portsmouth works at grassroots level through our parish communities. Inspired by Catholic faith, Caritas is the helping hand of the Church – reaching out to the poor, vulnerable and excluded, regardless of race or religion, to build a world based on justice and fraternal love.

Second Tuesday of Every Month 2- 3.30 pm

The knitting group at Caroline Square provides a welcoming space where people can come along to knit and socialise. If you are unable to knit but would like to learn, we can teach you! There will be the opportunity to take part in community knitting projects, we have knitting supplies available if you don't have your own.

We would also welcome anyone who would like to volunteer at the group.

Catalyst is a provider of evidence-based wellbeing support for individuals and organisations. Our services for individuals include Cognitive Behavioural hypnotherapy, mindfulness, sleep therapy and menopause support. For organisations we provide an independent supervision service, Action Learning facilitation and workshops and training supporting a healthy workplace culture.

Cathedral Dental Practice is a caring and modern private practice offering a comprehensive range of general, cosmetic and specialised dental treatments to you and your family.

We are a holistic practice, which means we focus strongly on helping you to avoid oral health problems by taking good care of your teeth and gums, and following a healthy lifestyle. We do not use amalgam in any of our fillings, and are happy to remove any amalgam (grey) fillings you may already have and replace them with bio-compatible tooth-coloured material.

The Cathedral Discovery Centre, situated at the car park entrance to the Cathedral, is a resource for the benefit to the Parish, the Diocese and the community at large. It comprises meeting rooms with kitchen facility and a shop.

Catherine Booth House is a centre for families who are deemed to be unintentionally homeless and in need of high support. The Salvation Army works closely with a range of agencies including children and adult social care and housing to help support families to be able to maintain their own tenancy by helping them gain the life skills needed.

All of our referrals are made via the Portsmouth City Council Supported Housing Scheme.

Our small day centre offers the perfect venue for a maximum of 10 elders who may be lonely, depressed, bored or having memory problems to step out of their house and spend an exuberant day out while their carers have a much-needed break.

CESSA Housing Association (CESSA HA) manages a total of 8 Sheltered Housing Schemes for a variety of ex-service personnel and their families in the locations listed below.
