Personal Choice has been set up as we recognise that older people and their relatives and/or carers in Portsmouth, particularly the Charles Dickens ward need more accessible information, advice, support and opportunities for social integration to address the problems of economic and social deprivation and improve their independence and well being. We also aim to support older people in the years preceding retirement to address issues that could lead to poverty and isolation in later years.

Mat Pilates, must be able to get to the floor. Stretching and toning the body to improve flexibility and strength whilst correcting posture. Wear comfortable clothes you can move freely in.

The Power of Self Esteem Course is experiential and will give you the opportunity to understand and find inner strength to break free and create what you really want in your life.

Please note: we support age 21+

The course is free to residents of Paulsgrove and Wymering. Please contact us regarding the fee if you live outside of this area.

The PYC Service sits within Portsmouth City Council’s Housing, Neighbourhood and Buildings Directorate. Our locality based provision is supported by additional council funding and grants which enable us to offer open access services to all City residents.

PYC manages four community centres; provides six staffed adventure playgrounds and four youth clubs across the city and runs three additional youth projects. We also administer the HAF programme on behalf of the Children’s, Families and Education Directorate.

Play and Youth spaces support from early childhood in to adulthood, providing safe recreational spaces which are also informal educational environments, where children and young people are supported with their mental health and wellbeing.

Our staff receive specialist training in safeguarding and restorative practice, and in supporting children, young people and their families.

We run workshops in areas that impact children and young people, such as domestic abuse; healthy relationships; knife crime and exploitation; and eating healthily; thereby contributing as an early intervention service, reducing anti-social behaviour, risk of harm and improving life chances.

The objective of the adventure playgrounds is to offer ‘freely chosen play’ in adherence to Article 31 of the UN convention on the rights of the child to engage in play and recreational activity and participate freely in cultural life.

Youth work offers young people safe spaces to explore their identity, experience decision-making, increase their confidence, develop inter-personal skills and think through the consequences of their actions. This leads to better informed choices, changes in activity and improved outcomes for young people.

A new venue in Portsmouth by and for people under 30. We are re-imagining Playland – the abandoned arcade on Commercial Road – into a vibrant, youth-led creative space. And it’s a totally blank canvas…for now!

Wherever you are on your journey and whatever you are passionate about – Playland is a safe space to express yourself, and access opportunities to build skills and experience for your creative career.

We’re looking for young people aged 16 – 30 to help shape every part of this new space: from designing the blank-canvas interior into a functional and playful space, to planning what will take place there.

In return we’ll offer training, mentoring, and shadowing opportunities, and we will support you to make your ​‘dream’ events come true. This is a chance for you to co-create something from the ground up, shaping it as YOU think it should be.

Pompey in the Community promotes education, healthy living and sporting participation and achievement among people of all ages.

Pompey Pedals gives people the opportunity to cycle on a regular basis through help, support and guidance.

The two centres in Portsmouth are at Portsmouth Bransbury Park and Portsmouth Mountbatten Centre.
