ShopmobilityShopmobility provides scooters, wheelchairs, and small portable scooters to people with limited mobility. This is to allow them to visit shops, leisure facilities, social events or to enjoy special times with friends and family.
Shopmobility is available both to residents and visitors alike. It can be used by young or old even if their disability is temporary or permanent. First-time visitors need to register with the scheme which is quick and simple. The customer will also receive training in the use of the vehicle. Portsmouth Shopmobility can be found in Arundel Street next to the old post office. There are car parking facilities for the customers so that when they arrive, they are able to park and transfer directly to their chosen vehicle. To join the scheme a customer will need to pay £10 for an annual membership. This also gives them access to other Shopmobility schemes under the Wessex group within Hampshire. The cost of one day’s hire is £5.00. Shopmobility also provides vehicles for long-term hire. The cost is either £32.50 per week for a powered vehicle or £22.50 for a wheelchair. A refundable deposit of £50 is required for the vehicle for the period of the hire. Portsmouth Shopmobility is operated through Portsmouth City Council and has done so since May 2021. Portsmouth Shopmobility service users will notice it is business as usual, with changes to publicity material and signage. The existing fleet is being reviewed, refurbished, and in some cases renewed. Ensuring that we continue to provide a first-class service giving our users the freedom to get around independently. Portsmouth Shopmobility continues to work with many tourist venues such as the Historic Dockyard. We are also continuing our ‘meet and greet’ service delivering vehicles to individuals either at their homes or to hotels. |
