Independence and Wellbeing Team

Social Groups
We support a range of social groups for people aged over 50 because we know how easy it is to lose touch with colleagues and friends over the years, and what a difference it makes to your independence and wellbeing when you enjoy your social life.

Our groups

These groups are supported by a facilitator from our Independence and Wellbeing Team. We can introduce you to the group and help you settle in. If you are interested in attending, please call 023 9284 1762.

The groups are based in Landport, Somerstown and Portsea. Activities are chosen by the group and often include guest speakers, quizzes and games, information on health and wellbeing services, raffles, bingo, trips out and plenty of fun, laughter and chats over a cup of tea.

There is a small weekly fee to cover the group’s room and refreshment costs.

Yoga in the Park
Every Wednesday morning at 10am, meet at the fountain in Victoria Park.
Come along for a yoga session in Victoria Park. The sessions are currently funded, though any donations are welcome on the day to go towards the continuity of the project. Come and try out the sessions to try an gentle session of yoga, for all abilities.

Independent groups

These groups run independently. If you’re interested in attending, contact the group directly.

The team set up a range of social groups across the city, which now run independently. They include craft groups, New Age Kurling, and friendly get-togethers over a cup of tea. For information about the groups search “GP social groups” on the Healthwatch directory.
