Walking FootballProudly sponsored by Powder Monkey Brewing Co Walking football is a slower-paced version of the beautiful game we all love to play and watch, designed to make football accessible to everyone, regardless of age or fitness level. Whether you’re a seasoned player or new to the sport, walking football offers a fantastic opportunity to stay active and enjoy the camaraderie of team play, all without the intensity of a full-speed match.
The game is small-sided, with no running (on or off the ball), very little contact and kick-ins instead of throw-ins. With less stress on the body and no real sudden change of direction or movements, the game allows the participants to play without apprehension. Older people in particular have seen many benefits, including lower heart rate and blood pressure, less fat, more muscle and more mobility. As well as offering health benefits, Walking Football offers social benefits – the opportunity for participants to meet new people, prevent isolation and create interaction for individuals and small groups. |
Walking FriendsWalking Friends was formed over ten years ago to enable people to enjoy walking regularly both in Portsmouth and the surrounding countryside.
During week days there are both 2 and 3 mile circular walks; 3 days a week every week following regular routes. There are facilities to have a hot or cold drink after the walks. At weekends we have 1 or 2 country walks a month, these are approximately 5 miles long. We use buses, car share or when expenses allow a coach to reach our destination. Trained walk leaders ensure that the pace is right for all walkers and lead all our walks, and a walk leader to be a back marker to check on everyone. All of our walks have Health and Safety checks. The country walks are all pre-walked to ensure the comfort and safety of our members. Our club is friendly and open to everyone. We walk in all weathers, so stout boots /trainers and waterproofs are useful. Advice on the right clothing etc. is readily available from our Walk Leaders. Many friendships are formed, walking is an ideal way to get to know people and is,a safe, enjoyable and easy way to keep healthy. |
